C Murry-Parkes

The work of C Murry-Parkes looks at the individual coping with the “catastrophic” event within the cycle of experience.

1.         The Stimuli:                   The event takes place.

2.          Perception:                   The individual recognises the event.

3.          Awareness:                   The event enters the awareness of the individual.

4.          Appraisal:                     The individual sees how this event is going to affect  them.

5.          Plan:                             The individual sets out what they need to do.

6.          Action:                          The individual carries out the plan.

7.          Review:                        The individual sees if the plan has had the desired effect.

8.          Problem   Remains:      If the plan, does not have the desires effect, then further 

                                                 appraisal will be required. Stages4,5,and 6 would be repeated.

9.          Problem Resolved:        If the plan, at stage 5, has the desired effect, then life goes

                                                   on.
