RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY
Albert Ellis developed this method of therapy in the mid 1950's, and is based on the principal that" it is the irrational beliefs held by the individual, and the perception of how they should be treated that causes the difficulty, and it is the aim of therapy to change these irrational beliefs and thought patterns by:
1. Examining the beliefs more rationally.
2. Change the irrational beliefs for rational beliefs.
3. Adopt the new way of thinking as part of daily living.
Individuals are not affected by events but by their perception of the events.
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy is very directive and almost confrontational. Where the therapist dictates the road therapy will take.
