ANALYSIS

Here we aim at discovering the root cause of the difficulty and deal with that.

"An individual is unable to travel in a car, and this difficulty has recently become worse, spreading to the inability to travel on public transport as well".

The presenting symptoms are claustrophobia, dizziness, nausea, and on the last occasion, vomiting.

As a result of analysis, it is discovered that at an earlier age (4years), this person had an "accident" in the car (Wet themselves), and tried to hide the "crime" from agitated parents, they had to endure a 2 hour journey, wet, shameful, uncomfortable, smelly and scared, at the consequences of their deed.

The incident gave way to repressions and the individual is now no longer conscious of the event.

(The incident is repressed, it is not forgotten. It is still there causing the symptom).

Any time the individual approaches a situation, which the subconscious mind perceives as similar, a defense mechanism is activated and the symptom is produced. (The role of the symptom is to prevent the reoccurrence of the terrible crime of those years gone by and the subsequent, wetness, shame, discomfort, smell and fear)

This is similar to the fire alarm; it doesn’t ask is this a pan that is on fire, or a birthday cake with 30 candles. Nor does it ask if this is a small or large fire, it makes the loudest noise possible.

Once the cause has been discovered then the incident can be viewed from the new perspective. It was a long journey. I was little. Things happen.
