Melanie Klein - Donald W. Winnicott:
The
Kleinian therapist believes that it is the continual introjection and projection
objects that are responsible for the development of the Ego. As stated earlier,
Introjection is the process by which the functions of an external object, are
taken over by it’s mental representation. Projection is: Specific impulses and
wish aspects of self, imagined to be.
The therapist takes client through reality testing, and examines the results of such fantasy operations on others, as well as discovering the limits of effectiveness on such fantasies The Kleinian therapist believes that the origin of all neurosis is held to lie in the first year of life, and consists of failures to pass through the depressive position. This is an essential part of all infant’s development and the outcome of this crisis, determines all later development.
